Greetings from
Wake Forest Gifted and Talented First let me thank
you for visiting our website to view the wonderful happenings of our school
community. We are very proud of the
work that our staff and students engage in during their core instructional
time, as well as, their elective classes.
All students, K-5, attend 2 elective classes each day, Tuesday thru
Friday. Elective choices range from
dance, drama, orchestra, chess, and kitchen chemistry to poetry, team sports,
etc. Selections are made by parents
and students with guidance from homeroom teachers when applicable. Of course our
magnet program is taught in addition to the North Carolina Standard Course of
Study. Classroom instruction centers
around the development of a balanced literacy program allowing time for
independent reading, shared reading, and guided reading. We recognize that all students learn at a
variety of rates, therefore, their guided reading instruction is based on
each child’s individual needs. Our
math instruction is an inquiry- based problem solving approach. Students of all ages are using
manipulatives to solve authentic mathematical tasks. A common theme throughout all of our
classrooms and all subject areas is the consistent modeling and expectations
of our character traits and a common respect for each other. As a result of
the dedication of staff, students and parents our students’ performance on
the North Carolina State End of Grades tests has risen from 88% of our
students at level III or IV in reading in 2003-2004 to approximately 93% of
our students reading at level III or IV in 2005-2006. As our mission statement states: “We
Focus on Education” Enjoy viewing
our website. If you have any
additional questions please feel free to email them to us or call us at
919-554-8655. Sincerely, Ms. D. Tillery |
